Wormhole/J142414 Eternum Pariah vs Acting Neutral 8/16/09 22:00 Eve Time

A couple mates and I were doing some carebearing activities, when a fellow corpie who was scanning some local systems when he calls out on comms that he’s got some drakes running plexes in a wormhole, a class 3 to be exact.  We quickly form up a gang consisting of: 1 rook, 2 feroxi, 1 curse, 1 devoter, 1 apoc and 1 geddon.  Figuring we’ve got a solid enough gang to take out these ratting drakes, we move to our small POS in the system were the wormhole was to wait for an opportune time for the gank.

As we are forming up, the drakes have finished the site, and move on to the next combat site.  Now, the who had scanned them out, is a great pilot, but he’s new to the corp, and is not familiar with wormholes, the types of sites, and the spawn patterns.  He bookmarks a wreck, warps to the wormhole as we jump in.  He pops a fleet warp to them and we warp in.  We called targets and away we go.

We pop the bubble, and put individual points on each target.  We all were warped in a 0, which means that most of our gank isn’t at optimal.  As we maneuver into position I notice that there are about 8 sleeper cruisers in the plex as well (turns out later that it was mag site we warp into them on).  We’re breaking down the first drakes tank, while we’ve jammed the other 2.  The curse draws sleeper agro and is forced to warp out.  Shortly there after, the drake goes down, but the rook draws sleeper agro as well as the remaining drakes as his jams fail.  Unfortuately, the rook’s being been webbed by sleepers, is stuck in the bubble, and gets popped.

We begin to break down the other drake, and our curse pilot warps back in.  We have the 2^nd drake into structure, when the sleepers turn on the curse and pop it.  The second drake falls, but the third has burned out of the bubble and warps out.  We scoop loots and warp out, slightly more worse off than when we began.

As is with every lesson learned in EVE, it usually come with a certain amount of ISK loss.  So the lesson of the day boys and girls is…wait until the wormhole gank targets have cleared, or nearly cleared the wormhole plex.  Warping into a plex with pvp fit ships against sleepers is pretty much suicide.
